Norman Baker’s book provides a history of Fort Loudoun, designed and built by young Colonel George Washington to defend the Virginia frontier as conflicts escalated with the French. With narrative and sketches, the book details the construction and manning of the fort and its eventual decline.
The French and Indian War Foundation purchased a portion of the Fort Loudoun site, located in Winchester Virginia. This property includes the original well and is located where the North Bastion and North Barracks once stood.
